The protagonist in the Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin is,Mrs. Mallard. The setting is her bedroom and during the great depression. Mrs. Mallards husband is away providing for her and was though to be killed. This then sends Mrs. Mallard into both external and internal conflict. External, the of her husband , internally her is longing to be free yet is afraid of being alone. The resonding theme is one of abuse and fear. I believe the point of view is in omniscient objective, due to we see this tragedy through Mrs. Mallards eyes and those who are trying to console her.
This story had an ending which was not expected. The feelings were the husband was and Mrs. Mallard died of a broken heart. Maybe, she died due to seeing what she thought was a ghost. I also feel Mrs. Mallard died of a BROKEN heart. Also there is the question of Richards character? Was he said that his friend had died or was he trying to move in on Mrs. Mallard?
