In the Necklace, Madame Loisel displays internal conflict. She is upset with the fact she is poor and desires or lucts after the finer things of life. She does this by becoming upset when her husband presents her with an invitation to a fine ball and she cries and acts as a child, not wanting to go due to "HAVING NOTHING TO WEAR." She also displays this childish attitude when her husband suggests she wear flowers around her neck and she refuses. Her jealousy is evident in her relationship, or lack of one with her highscool friend. The setting is first the apartment and then the ballroom. It could possibly be in her mind.
This story is one of attitude and greed. Madame Loisel is selfish and only cares for her own insterests. She will go to great lengths to obtain anything she wants, while hurting those she loves the most. She has become green with envy. In the end the grass wasn't greener on the other side of the fence.
