Mrs Sadler:

I have finished the blogs. You stated I was to complete FOUR. I have done so for the three days. I hope this covers my days being gone. Thank you for understanding and yes I did enjoy your class. It is so good to know that God has teachers like you who live for Him and it does indeed show. Enjoy the rest of your summer.

In Christ alone,

Angela

The victims/ July 25 #4

This poem is written in free verse. There are rhyme and unrhymed lines with no set meterical pattern. The persona is speaking of her parents break up and how it has affected her. She seems to be glad her father is gone. She portrays her father as an animal when it is spoken those dark carcassess hung in your closet, and the black noses of your shoes with their large pores. There is a methaphor to her feelings when her father laft and when Nixon was empeached. The mood is of happiness that her father is gone and no longer can hurt her mother.
This poem is something I have seen numerous times in my life. So many families break up. In my home my husband is from a split family. I wonder are people better off ending an abusive relationship or do they need to stay and fight it out? I know I was raised with the attitude, you made your bed now lie in it? Who knows!

Ethics July 25/#3

This poem is written in dramatic monologue. The persona is addressing old age and her response to it. She uses visual images of an old lady and a Rembrandt painting. Both of this images are of great value. It is written in first person. With the persona giving us details of her past and her present day. The persona implies to the reader that old age is to be cherish. This is seen in the last stanza I know that woman and painting and season are almost one and all beyond saving by children. The tone is of understanding and growth.
This poem speaks to me to always cherish what is a percious and glorious gift. That is old age. I have a saying, you can enjoy aging or be a daisy pusher! Age is in the eye of the beholder.

the road not taken july 25/#2

this poem is written in iambic tetrameter. It is written as a petarcham with the rhyming patter en being abbaab. Frost is illustrating we have two roads which we can choose from in life. One road may lead to happiness and the other to unrest. He enables us to see that taking the less traveled road can make a difference. this is illustrated in the last sentence where he states and that has made all the difference. The tone is of encouragement.
I enjoyed this poem. I know in my life I have had to choose which road I would take. When hard times have come my way I had the choice to be bitter or to be better. I choose to take the path which lead to happiness instead of bitterness. The one less traveled.

a Noiseless patinet spiderJuly 24/#4

This poem is written in free verse, with no specific rhyme pattern noted. The spider is a methapor for patient in obtaining ones goal in life. A spider is an insect which stays at its work and pays close detail to it. There is seen in this poem the usage of trochaic meter. the tone is The persona stresses patience and hard work.
I found this poem to be somewhat uplifting. It speaks to staying in the game no matter how hard the work may be. Also, never quiting and always doing ones best.

Because I could not stop 7/24 #3

This poem is written in the style of blank verse. It is also a elegy. Meter is anapestic with the stressed word being the third. The persona portrays how effects a person. We see irony when the casket passes the school children and they are free.
I have often wondered will we really be able to understand or see how our loved ones grieve when we are . Maybe we will. We always say grandma or grandpa are watching over us looking down from heaven? Are they really?

I wandered lonely as a cloud july 24 #2

this poem is written as a sonnet with the primary rhyme being trochaic tetremeter. The cloud is being used as a metaphor for direction. The persona is torn by his ual identity. There is also the usage of iambic meter.
The meaning I draw from this is love is a never ending thing. To love is to be loved. We never forget our first "true love".

be not proud

The persona suggests there is victory in . The poem is written as an ode. Simile is word when we see the words poison and poppy. Both of this words mean/ bring about . The tone is of saddness. The pattern is dactylic the stress word being the first and the the following word is unstressed.
The theme is of poem is overcoming ones fear of . We are to embrace . If a person is a christian then is now the victory and we have overcome.

To Celia/ 23 July

This eight line poem is written in trochaic tetrameter. The persona portrays a romantic love. Irony is seen when the persona states, I will pledge with mine, I would not change for thine. The persona is stating he does not want to change for the sake of live. There is seen in this poem the changing of seasons.
I feel the poem illustrates how a person can become white as snow if they allow Jesus Christ to fill them and become new.

The Passionate Shephard to His love 7/23

The persona dramatizes a wedding. A gown of white symbolizes purity. The tone is that of longing to be loved. It is written in romanticism. The meter is iambic pentameter. The ending words rhym . Nature is used to symbolize change.
I enjoyed this poem. It shows me the progression of love between a husband and wife.

buffalo bills/July 25th friday

The persona is writing an epic. The meter is anapestic hexameter. The setting is the wild west. There is irony in Buffalo Bill the pigeons and then he is killed. Was he a stoll pigeon?
This poem wasn't quite what I found interesting. The writing style on the page was not traditonal. There is a third person who is speaking. Overall not a hit for me.

the sick rose/ July 23, wednesday

The persona implies that beauty is only skin deep. No matter the outward appearance it is the heart that matters. This poem is written as a qyatrain. The persona uses metaphors when speaking of the worm. The worm is like a theif who comes and destories the beautiful room. He is only out to gain what is good for himself not for the benefit of the flower.
The rhyme pattern is anapestic.
I feel this poem does indeed represent me at times. I want my way in a relationship and at times hurt those I love the most. Maybe I am a worn not a rose.

How do I love thee/July 24

This poem is written in free verse. The persona stresses the importance of eternal love. This is a love which never ends. The poem is written with a rhyme pattern of spondaic. The persona uses symbolism in the words of height, depth, and breadth. She is stating there is no place in which her love will not be express and grow.
I feel this poem is about love and that is indeed never ends. This love can be seen first in the relationship we have with our new born baby and the again when we meet that person who is to be our mate. This love grows everyday and as we age it becomes tender once again.

The Glass Menagerie

In the Glass Menagerie the protagonist is portrayed by Amanda the mother. Amanda longs for her daughter Laura to be involved in a relationship. She goes to the extreme of arranging a gentleman caller for Laura. The antagonist is Tom her son. He longs to be out from under his mothers thumb and be free to be a writer as well as a spirited man. The foil is portrayed by Laura. She allows her mother to provide her a gentleman caller. Open conflict is seen between Amanda and Tom. We also see disappointment in Amanda as she finds out Laura had not finished school. Dramatic irony is present when Jim O'Connor kisses Laura and builds her up to feeling he is interested in her to find out he is engaged. He has set Laura free, but has also kept her in her state of inferiority. The theme is overcoming hurtles to be free from our feelings of failure.

The play was somewhat a let down. I wanted Jim and Laura to become an item. When he kissed her I thought back to my high school days when some guys would treat me like that. They would play with me and then let me down and go onto the next helpless victim.

Act II of a salesman

Throughout this act we see tremendous areas of foreshadowing. There is the rubber hose on the furnace, as well as Linda's shielding of Willy and her refusal to see there is anything wrong with him. Conflict is seen once again both internally, Willy and self, as well as externally, Willy and Biff. Flashbacks are see as we see Willy with a woman on a sells trip. I feel this is when Biff learns how to mistreat women. He has had the ultimate DREAM of the perfect man shattered. He now sees his father as a NORMAL man no longer a HERO. Biff is now the foil. The women in this drama are static characters as well as Ben, Charley, Julie , Howard and many others. During the resolution Linda is heard stating We're free, we're free, we're free. I seen this is the resolution to the many years of untold conflict. Maybe just maybe Linda knew all along Willy wasn't faithful to her. The traveling salesman was indeed TRAVELING. From one bed to another to make his sales. Maybe is this where the saying originated the milkman made it.
Over all I enjoyed this drama. I see glimpses of my grandparents. My dads father was a lot like Willy and my grandma was a Linda. She stood by her man through thick and thin. Would I stand by my husband? I think so, due to the fact I truly love him.

of a salesman act I

Arthur Miller in his drama, of a Salesman, introduces us to Willy Loman, the protagonist and to Linda Loman, the confidant. He also introduces us to Happy Loman his son who is portrayed at the antagonist. We also are introduced to Biff Loman, the foil. Willy is a sixty year old salesman who is struggling both physically and emotionally. We see this in the numerous s he has while driving as well as the periods he seems to be out of his head. Willy was once a BIG man or so he perceives himself to be in his business, but now is no longer a BIG MAN. His family, sons are good for nothing bums who have never grown up and his wife is the shelter who takes care of Willy. The setting is their home which was once in an open field, but is now surrounded by apartment homes. The conflict is man/man and man/self. Man/man Willy wanting to be on top of the business and man/self Willy's wondering mind. Stock characters are Charley and Ben, Howard( younger).Willy is a man who is regimented and does not accept change easily. He often is found living or reminiscing in the past. He longs to be free of his proceived failure.
This act shows what many of the people of today go through. When we approach the age of retirement many people view us of know value. Youth and the longing to remain young have indeed taken over our world. Many times I feel children do not grow up is out of free of leaving what is comfortable and seeing what their parents have gone through. This indeed has had an impact upon my life and my brothers. He is still living in the shadow of my father. I know at times I do the same.

Night pg 85 to end

In this section we see the usage of metaphors when the SS compare the prisoners to filthy dogs, flea-ridden dogs. Familial love is demonstrated when Elie begs of his father not to lay down and is being the caregiver instead of the receiver. Irony is seen when the prisoners are wanting to sleep and sleep will ultimately bring about . We also see symbolism when the blankets are referred to as prayer shawls.
This account has indeed impacted me. Would my son be willing to stand by my husband and myself in a time of testing as seen here? I knew of the Holocaust but I did not realize what suffering was impacted upon these Gods children. My heart has indeed been moved and I pray I never will have to experience this type of hell in my lifetime. Please God forget us your people for us a ly and horrific destruction of mankind.

Night pg 47-84

Once again Elie is the protagonist. The showers are a form of symbolism. The symbolize ness and the breaking down of the man. Both physically and spiritually. There is irony present when Elie states, Blessed be Thou, Almighty, Master of the Universe, who chose us among all nations to be d day and night, to watch as our fathers, our mothers and our brothers end up in the furnaces? Praise be Thy Holy Name, for having chosen us to be slaghtered on Thine altar? Once these prayers were prayed in a loving reverant way, now they are being offered in rebellion. The conflict is man/man and man/self. Man/man in how Elie and the other captors are treated, and man/self in the form of self doubt and questioning Elie has now in his heart.
The part of this section which has the greatest impact on me is when the little boy is hanged and he is still alive. I can visualize his face and wonder WHY, WHY, WHY. I can hear his cry and feel the need to rescue him from his impending . Would I be willing to stand by and let someone kill my son Branden, or would I die helping save him? How could the men of that day stand and watch? I also see in this another form of simile, when the captors are told to remove their hats and then place them back on their heads when the men and children are hung. This is as if they were to salute them as they died. My heart has been moved.

Night

Elie Wiesel introduces us to the Holocaust and the tremendous hell he and his family experienced during this period. He is the protagonist and the conflict is both external and internal. The external conflict is the treatment the Jewish people receive from their captors and the internal conflict is seen in Elie's feelings toward the captors and his lack of faith. The conflict is also man/man, man/circumstances/ man/self. There is symbolism when Mrs. Schachler screams of fire and then we see the crematorium. The point of view is first person.
I wonder how I would have responded to this treatment? Would I have tried to stop it, or would I just keep silent. In the Bible it is stated we( Christians, followers of Christ) will indeed be persecuted in the last days. Will we experience the same treatment the Jews did, or will it be something different. The mark of the beast was placed on the Jews when they had to take a number. Elie Wiesel seems to be a strong man. He continued to protect his father to the best of his ability. He demonstrated great, passonate love for another. Would I be willing to stand by my loved ones? Elie Wiesel had moved me.

The found boat

Alice Munro introduces us to the found boat. The setting is the flood river in a small town on a railroad line in the upper north. A state where maple syrup is made. the point of view is third person omniscient. the protagonist is the boat. The theme is freedom. Both for the boat and for the students who found it. There is flurting going on as does happen with high school students. The plot is freedom for the boat and team work.
I thought the boat would have a body in it due to how heavy it appeared to be. I also did not think the boys would allow the s to be in the boat. The ending was not what I had assumed. The focus was taken off of the boat and then onto the students. Somewhat a love story based on the love of the boat and the unurttterd love of Eva and Claton.

Catbird Seat

James thurber in catbird seat introduces us to the protagonist Mr. Martin and the antagonist Mrs. Ulgine Barrows. Mr Martin is a man of few words a very mysterious man. He as practiced the same routine for the past twenty two years. He views Mrs. Barrows as a threat and has plotted to do her in. Mrs. Barrow has become a thorn in Mr. Martin's flesh. Martin is a man of mystery, quiet and well respected,as well as loyal. The conflict internal.Written in omniscient objective.
My reaction: I felt the ending was a left down. I thought for sure Mr. Martin would indeed do in Mrs. Barrows. In the end was indeed thicker than water due to Mr. F remaining loyal to Mr. Martin and finding Mrs. Barrows to be insane. Today in our society loyalty to ones company is spoken of but rarely practiced.

a worn path II

Eudora welty introduces us to Aunt Phoenix. She is a black lady who has survived the slave trade. The setting of the story is the back hills of the deep south. It is post slavery times. Aunt Phoenix displays great courage and strength in her struggle to go to town. She is the protagonist of the story. The theme is overcoming any obstacle with courage and determination. external conflict is displayed through the rough land she has to travel to get to town. She also experiences conflict by how she is perceived in the clinic. This is written in omniscient limited.
Aunt Phoenix is a woman I hope to be someday. A woman who inspit of hard times will be able to see through the bush and look to the prize. Aunt Phoenix is like my Grandma who passed away. In spite of an unhealthy marriage she survived and became a Christian woman. She held strong until her last days. She also showed great strength in the time of . Therefore, I want to be like Aunt Phoenix and my grandma.

A rose for Emily

William Faulkner introduces us to Emily. She is a old lady who has been of great interest to her community her entire life. When Miss Emily dies the towns people come not out of respect but out of curiosity. Miss emily is the protagonist, due to everyone showing some sort on interest in her.The plot is how the town will receive what is owed them and Miss Emily's lack of interest in seeing they receive it. Conflict is internal Emily desires to be loved yet to be left alone. The external conflict is shown in the towns business and their nosiness in Emily's life. The story is written in omniscient limited.
My reaction to this story is:Miss emily found love and she continued to love even after Homer had passed. This is shown in the hair on the second pillow. It is long and gray. A man hair would not turn gray. Therefore Miss Emily did find true love. I have seen this in the years I have worked. An older person cannot let go of their love. Miss Emily is a source of encouragement.

The Bride comes to Yellow Sky II

Stephen Crane introduces us to Jake Potter , in the Bride comes to yellow sky. The setting of this is the town of Yellow Sky somewhere in the southwest United States. I feel the setting is an Indian reservation. Jake Potter displays internal conflict. He is happy he has taken a bride, but is also concerned about how she will be received once they return to Yellow Sky. Jake is unaware of the comments and sneers around him due to be completely head over heels in love. The setting of this story is first the train and then the small town of Yellow Sky. This is written in third person omniscient. Jake also experiences an external conflict, that with Scratchy Wilson. He does not want to hurt Scratchy, but at the same time is devoted to his wife.
This story to be is one of deception. Jake Potter has taken a wife from another cultural and is afraid of what it will do to his reputation. He also shows he is not afraid to die for love. The ending was somewhat a let down, due to there is no . Maybe there actually was, someone with kindness.

The Story of an Hour 3rd attempt

The protagonist in the Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin is,Mrs. Mallard. The setting is her bedroom and during the great depression. Mrs. Mallards husband is away providing for her and was though to be killed. This then sends Mrs. Mallard into both external and internal conflict. External, the of her husband , internally her is longing to be free yet is afraid of being alone. The resonding theme is one of abuse and fear. I believe the point of view is in omniscient objective, due to we see this tragedy through Mrs. Mallards eyes and those who are trying to console her.
This story had an ending which was not expected. The feelings were the husband was and Mrs. Mallard died of a broken heart. Maybe, she died due to seeing what she thought was a ghost. I also feel Mrs. Mallard died of a BROKEN heart. Also there is the question of Richards character? Was he said that his friend had died or was he trying to move in on Mrs. Mallard?

The Necklace 3rd attempt

In the Necklace, Madame Loisel displays internal conflict. She is upset with the fact she is poor and desires or lucts after the finer things of life. She does this by becoming upset when her husband presents her with an invitation to a fine ball and she cries and acts as a child, not wanting to go due to "HAVING NOTHING TO WEAR." She also displays this childish attitude when her husband suggests she wear flowers around her neck and she refuses. Her jealousy is evident in her relationship, or lack of one with her highscool friend. The setting is first the apartment and then the ballroom. It could possibly be in her mind.
This story is one of attitude and greed. Madame Loisel is selfish and only cares for her own insterests. She will go to great lengths to obtain anything she wants, while hurting those she loves the most. She has become green with envy. In the end the grass wasn't greener on the other side of the fence.

A Worn Path

Setting:
Back hills of North Carolina post slave trade days. Winter has come and the days are short.

Aunt Phoenix is providing for her grandson whom is ill. She goes to great lengths to meet his physical needs. She is repected by the male traveler and is not frowned down upon in the town square.

The Bride Comes to Yellow sky

Mrs Sadler:
I am not writing a blog due to the fact I AM CONFUSSED!! I am unsure of literary language. I know the thoughts I have on the stories but am unsure how to post them. Could you please provide me a sample to view and then this old mind will understand. Thank you.

My response to this story is: Love conquers evil. Jake Potter did not have to fear what people felt about his new bride, due to the actions of Scratchy Wilson being wound up.

The Story of an Hour

Mrs Mallard helps us experience true love. She is grief stricken over the proclamation of her husbands and experiences the greatest emotion of being free. She is engulfed with emotion from her head to her toes. Her grief is short lived due to her husband being alive. Mrs. Mallard died a most passionate , that of a broken heart.

The necklace

Madame Loisel longs to feel pretty and to rid herself of the poverty which she lives in . Her husband treats her with an important invitation to a fabulous party. She is distraught on having no clothing which is elegant. Her husband out of shear love for her gives of his self to meet her needs. He loves her with a never ending love. Madame Loisel is able to escape her own reality and live her fantasy. She views the necklace as the real thing and goes to great lengths to be seen in it and be admired by the same people who would otherwise look down upon her. She looses the prized necklace and uses deception when returning it to the owner. Only years later she finds she has replaced a fake for the real thing. The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the street.
2nd attempt:
Madame Loisel is a selfish brat of a lady. She looks out for her own insterest and not that of her loving husband. She longs to be in a better class than the one she is living in. She dreams of being in the upper crust of society. When she is given this opportunity she again shows she only cares for herself and not her husband by longing and ing after things which appear to have great earthly value. In the end there is no earthly value.
Be thankful for the hand you have been dealt. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fense.

Miss Brill

This story deals with a woman who longs to remain young and is looking for love. She feels secure with her fur around her neck and caresses it as she would a lover. She longs to be a part of this grand picture. She is brought back to reality when the young couple refers to her as a stupid old thing. How she longs for yesterday.
2nd attempt
The setting of Miss Brill is a park. The park symbolizes a place of belonging to a group of people and playing a role. Miss Brill is playing the role of an actress who longs to be loved even for a moment. She demonstrates this love in her carressing of her fur and by reading the newspaper to the OLDER gentleman everyday.
I feel this is a story of looking for a long lost love.
3rd attempt
In Miss Brill, by Katherine Mansfield we see the symbolism of love and longing to be loved through Miss Brills pressence at the park week after week. Miss Brill longs to be a part of the big picture and plays a role of the lonely old lady. This story is told in first person . The antagonist in the story is the young couple who view Miss Brill as old and worthless. The type of conflict is internal within Miss Brill. She so desires to be loved and to give love. The external conflict is from the couple once again, belittling Miss Brill.

This story is a love story. I feel Miss Brill is a lonely lady who so desperately desires to be loved. She goes to great lengths to be loved, this love is an imaginary love. Oh to be young and free.
